This Week in Golf – 9/15/2020
There was a definite feeling of fall in the air as the final round of the playoffs took place.  Steve Schlehuber
and Greg Martinez faced Joe Shea and John Buscaglia in the third place match, while Rick Kilduff and Glenn
Davis squared off against Bob Paquette and Judi Gray for the league championship.
The third place match teed off first.  Steve and Greg took all four points on the first hole, but Joe and
John bounced back with three on the second.  From there, Steve and Greg slowly extended their lead to
six points after seven holes.  They opened the door a bit as they both struggled on the eighth hole and
Joe and John closed the gap to two.  Steve and Greg recovered to take three points on the last hole to
take the holes by a score of 20-16.  John earned two points for the low individual net score, but the two
teams tied for low team net.  That gave Steve and Greg the win by a 21-19 score.
The championship match was also a close one.  Rick and Glenn started off strong, taking three points on
each of the first two hole.  Bob and Judi turned the tables, winning the next two holes to take a two point
lead after four holes.  The lead stayed at two as the next two holes were split. When Bob and Judi won the
seventh hole, the lead was stretched to six.  Rick and Glenn rallied to take six of the last eight points, but
Bob and Judi won the holes by a score of 19-17.  The net scores would determine the winners.  With Bob
having the low individual net score, he and Judi had enough points to win the match.  The teams tied for
low team net, which made the final 22-18.
In the other matches, Bill Meehan carded the low score for the week, with a four over par score of 38 on
the front nine.  Bill started with seven straight pars before running into trouble on the eighth hole.  His net
score of two under par was the second best, which earned him a sleeve of balls.  The low net for the night
belonged to Eric Solomont, who had a net score of three under par on the back nine.  Eric also gets a
sleeve of balls for his efforts.
