This Week in Golf – 9/8/2020
This week brought the semifinal round of the playoffs.  The four remaining teams would be trimmed down
to the two who will play for the league championship.
In the first match, Bob Paquette and Judi Gray, who upset the top seeds last week, took on Steve
Schlehuber and Greg Martinez.  Bob and Judi took the early two point lead after winning the tenth hole.
Steve and Greg won  holes 13 and 14 and held a two point lead on the 16th tee.  Bob and Judi took the
last three holes by an 11-1 margin to advance to the finals.  Both B players shot better than their
handicaps.  Greg had a net score of two under par, while Judi was two strokes better at four under par.
Third seeds Joe Shea and John Buscaglia faced the fourth seeds Rick Kilduff and Glenn Davis in the second
match.  This match was over almost before it started, as Rick and Glenn took three of the first four holes
to jump out to a 10 point lead.  Joe and John mounted a late rally, winning holes 16 and 17, but fell short
as Rick and Glenn took the last hole.   Glenn had the best round of the foursome, with a net score of two
under par.  Rick and Glenn will face Bob and Judi in the championship match, while Joe and John will meet
Steve and Greg in the third-place match.
For the second week in a row, Sue Donovan had the low net score in the non-playoff matches.  Her net
score of 5 under par won her another sleeve of balls.  Second place was shared by Ollie Bisson and Bill
Meehan, with net scores of even par.  Both were awarded a sleeve of balls.  Bill's round included two
birdies.
