This Week in Golf – 9/1/2020
The cooler temperatures reminded us that the summer is nearly over as the playoffs got under way.
Leading things off, the top seeded team of Bill Meehan and Maria Spitzak faced Bob Paquette and Judi
Gray in a close match.  Bob had the low round of the week with a 39 on the front nine.  Bill was only two
strokes behind with a 41.  Bob and Judi took the holes by a score of 19-17 and all four points for the net
scores, mostly due to Bob's net score of three under par, which tied for the low net score of the week.
The second match featured Ollie Bisson and Peter Morlock against Steve Schlehuber and Greg Martinez.
The match was even after three holes, but Steve and Greg won the next five holes and cruised to a 27-13
win.  As the top seeds remaining, they will take on Bob and Judi next week.
The third match was another tight one.  Joe Shea and John Buscaglia were in a see-saw match with Ivan
Audouin and Alan Fraser.  The lead changed hands a few times and the teams were tied after eight holes.
Joe and John won the ninth hole to take the holes by a 19-17 score.  With the teams splitting the points
for the net scores, Joe and John narrowly advanced by a score of 21-19.
In the last match, Rick Kilduff and Glenn Davis squared off against Steve Palmer and Norma Giannattasio.
Rick got the team off to a good start with a birdie on the opening hole.  He and Glenn built an eight point
lead after five holes and never looked back.  The final was 25-15.  They will face Joe and John in the
semi-finals next week.
For the non-playoff teams, there were two sleeves of the highly coveted "Hackers & Duffers" golf balls
available to the two low net scores.  Sue Donovan claimed the first one with a net score of three under
par, tying Bob for the low net for the week.  The second sleeve went to Art Parker for his net score of
one over par.
