This Week in Golf – 8/13/2019
Although the forecast looked grim on Monday night, it improved throughout the day on Tuesday.  The
arrival of the thunderstorms kept getting later and later until they were not expected to arrive until after
the rounds would be complete.  In the end, they never materialized, but it was a muggy evening for the
penultimate week of the regular season.
Bill Meehan had the low round of the week.  He carded a 6 over par 42 on the back nine.  Bill finished his
round with a birdie on the 18th.
Jim Geary had the low net score for the week.  His score of 44 on the back nine gave him a net score of 6
under par.  Jim also had a birdie on the 18th hole.  In all, there were four birdies on the hole.
For the second time in three weeks, Maria Spitzak took the Closest to the Pin honors.  Once again, she did
it at the expense of her partner, John Buscaglia.  After John put his tee shot on #4 on the front of the
green, Maria followed suit.  Her ball took the slope and kept rolling closer and closer until it settled six and
a half feet away.  She made the putt for her first birdie of the season.
In the Aggie trophy race, Rich Geary and Eric Solomont, each took nine points in their respective matches,
so Rich maintains his four point lead going into the final week of the season.  Steve Palmer is lurking just
two points further back.
Mike McElhiney and Rich Geary slipped past Steve Schlehuber and Eric Solomont into first place.  While the
top six teams look to be safely into the playoffs, there are three teams fighting for the last two spots.  It
should be an exciting finale next week.
