This Week in Golf – 8/6/2019
It was another fine night for golf as the streak of rain-free Tuesdays continued.  With any luck, we'll be
able to get the last two weeks of the regular season and the playoffs completed on time.
The best round of the week belonged to Mike McElhiney, who shot a 41 on the front nine.  It came at a
good time as he and his partner Rich Geary were forced to play the course.  Rich also played well, coming
in just one stroke behind his partner.  That gave him a net score of 5 under par, which tied for the low net
score for the week.  He took 14 points and now sits atop the Aggie Trophy standings, with a 5 point lead
over Eric Solomont in second place.
Sue Donovan shared the low net score with Rich, shooting an identical score of 42 on the front nine.  That
ties the lead for Low Net A for the season in her first week as the A player.  Sue did not lose a hole in her
match with Steve Schlehuber, who also played well.
Steve Palmer continued his streak of good play.  His handicap now matches that of his partner Joe Shea.
He may take over as the A player before the playoffs start.
John Buscaglia's golf ball nearly struck his partner Maria Spitzak not once, but twice during the round.  On
the 13th tee, John pulled his drive, which whistled past their golf cart and ricocheted off the chain-link
fence.  Then on the 16th, he bladed his pitch, which went screaming across the green.  Fortunately, Maria
escaped both incidents unscathed.
Bill Meehan and Alan Fraser were scheduled to play the first match off the front against the course, but
wanted to get started early, so they moved to the back.  It turned out that it was Alan's anniversary and
he had dinner plans after the round.  Now, that's dedication!
