This Week in Golf – 7/30/2019
It was hot and humid on this evening.  With the heat index approaching 100 degrees, many players who
normally walk chose to take carts.  At least it wasn't raining.  In spite of the heat, there were some good
scores turned in this week.
The best round of the week belonged to Carl Twomey, who shot a four over par 40 on the back nine.  His
round included a birdie on the par 4 11th hole.  His net score of 5 under par was also the low net for the
week and set a new Low Net A score for the season.
The top-ranked team of Steve Schlehuber and Eric Solomont stretched their lead in the standings by
taking 30 points in the match against the course.  Both players shot below their handicaps.  Eric also takes
a slim one point lead in the Aggie standings.
Sue Donovan turned in another good round this week and her handicap dropped again.  As a result, she will
take over as the A player for her team next week.
Glenn Davis and John Buscaglia both hit the green on the fourth hole and it was tough to tell who was
closer.  After Glenn paced off both balls, it was determined that John's was a bit closer.  It turned out to
be moot, though, as Maria Spitzak hit her 5 wood to 10 feet on the eighth hole to take the Closest to the
Pin prize away from her partner.
There was another wildlife encounter this week.  On the ninth hole, Glenn Davis and Greg Martinez startled
a hawk as they drove their cart in the right rough.  It flew directly in front of the cart and across the
fairway to safety.
