This Week in Golf – 9/10/2019
Despite the slow start due to the rainy Spring weather, we managed to complete the 2019 season on
time with the Championship and Consolation matches taking place on a cloudy, yet warm, evening.
The Championship match saw Steve Schlehuber and Eric Solomont take on Bill Meehan and Alan Fraser in
a tight match.  Steve and Eric took the lead on the second hole, but Bill and Alan squared the match on
the third.  Steve and Eric took the fourth to nose ahead, but the match was even again after the sixth.
The next two holes were split, with Bill and Eric each making a birdie on the eighth hole.  On the ninth hole,
Eric and Alan split, but Steve took two points to give them a 19-17 lead.  The net scores would decide the
match.  Eric's net score of two under par was the low net score for the week, which gave them the points
they needed to take the match.  For good measure, they also took the two points for low team net to
make the final score 23-17.  Congratulations, Steve and Eric.
With his partner Joe Shea on travel, Steve Palmer faced Sue Donovan and Jim Geary on his own in the
Consolation match.  Usually, Steve has his best rounds when Joe is away, but that was not the case on
this night.  Steve won the first hole, but Sue and Jim won four straight holes to build an insurmountable
lead.  Sue and Jim took the third place prize by a score of 25-15.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the course, Jim Stead had a birdie on the 17th hole.  His tee ball settled
about three feet from the hole and he converted the putt.
