This Week in Golf – 9/3/2019
Although the Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, with sunny skies and 80 degrees it
still felt like a summer evening for the semifinal round of the playoffs.
As the only higher seeded team to advance from the quarterfinals, Steve Schlehuber and Eric Solomont
faced Sue Donovan and Jim Geary, who had knocked off the number one team the week before.  There
was no repeat magic for Sue and Jim, as Steve and Eric both played well and rolled to an easy victory to
earn a berth in the finals.  Steve scored a 5 on each of the first 8 holes, before breaking the streak with a
birdie 4 on the par 5 18th hole.
In the other playoff match, Alan Fraser was left to fend for himself against Joe Shea and Steve Palmer as
his partner Bill Meehan vacationed in Maine.  Alan proved to be up to the task.  His score of 45 on the back
nine gave him the low net score for the week with a net score of 5 under par.  Despite two birdies by Joe,
Alan secured his team's place in the championship match by a wide margin.
Bob Paquette had the low round of the week, scoring a 39 on the front nine.  Bob had a birdie on the 7th
hole.
George Weigler came within a few inches of acing the par 3 4th hole.  He was left with a tap-in birdie.
Unfortunately for George, there is no Closest to the Pin prize during the playoffs.
