This Week in Golf – 9/13/2019
There was a hint of fall in the air as 24 intrepid golfers descended upon the North Course at Stow Acres
Country Club for the 2019 Hackers & Duffers Outing.  The course took its toll on many of the players, but
it was a beautiful day and we weren't at work.
In the "A" flight, Bill Meehan had the low round of the day with a score of 92.  He also tied for the low net,
but was not eligible to win both prizes.  As a result, Steve Schlehuber took the top prize with his net score
of 73.  Joe Shea and Dave Gustafson took the second and third place prizes, respectively.
Nobody broke triple digits in the "B" flight.  The best of the bunch was John Buscaglia's score of 105,
which gave him the Low Gross prize.  Low net belonged to Maria Spitzak.  Her score of 109 gave her a net
score of 66 to win the top prize by seven strokes.  Mary Geary took second place and earned bragging
rights over Jim Geary, who took third.
The green was elusive on the par 3 8th hole.  In the "B" flight, Alan Fraser hit the green in the first group,
but none of the "B" players who followed could better his distance of 36 feet.  No "A" player managed to
find the putting surface, so the prize was awarded to Steve Schlehuber, who was the only "A" player to
make par on the hole.
The other Closest to the Pin prizes went to Bill Meehan on the 6th hole, Mary Geary on the 15th, and
Kevin Pletta on the 13th.  Kevin was able to make the putt to record one of only two birdies made on the
day.
Dan Lee had the other birdie, with a 4 on the par 5 fifth hole.  Dan was the only golfer to break 90, with a
score of 86.
