This Week in Golf – 7/24/18

It was a hot and steamy evening as the league resumed play after missing a week due to thunderstorms.

Bill Meehan had the low round for the week with a 41 on the front - a score of 8 over par.  Rich Geary
matched that with a score of 43 on the back.  Rich's net score of three under par was the low net for the
week and ties the Low Net B score for the year.

The second place team of Joe Shea and Steve Palmer took 28 points this week but were unable to gain
any ground on first place as Steve Schlehuber and Sean McElroy also took 28 points.  At the other end of
the spectrum, the ninth place duo of Maria Spitzak and Glenn Davis closed the gap on eighth place, but still
have a big hill to climb in the remaining four weeks if they are to make the playoffs.

Carl Twomey's birdie streak came to an end this week.  The week's only birdie belonged to Doug Sampson
on the par 4 11th hole.  Doug and Carl are now tied for the league lead.

Jim Stead hit the green on the fourth hole, ending up hole high on the right edge.  Dave Gustafson
followed by putting his tee ball just on the front of the green directly below the hole.  From the tee, it
looked like the two balls were just about even and upon reaching the green, it was still uncertain which was
closer.  Dave paced off both balls and Jim's was closer by the length of one of Dave's feet.  It was good
enough for Jim to take the Closest to the Pin award this week.
