This Week in Golf – 9/11/18
The forecast was questionable for the final night of the season, but the expected thunderstorms never
came and it was actually sunny when the league teed off.  The clouds came in quickly and the humidity
and bugs made things uncomfortable.  With a large number of absences, there was some creative
rearrangement of some of the groups.
The playoffs concluded with the third place and championship matches.  Joe Shea and Steve Palmer took
the third place prize by default, as their opponents were not able to play.  The pair played well enough to
win on most nights, though.
The championship match was a little closer.  Steve Schlehuber and Sean McElroy took a quick lead over
John Buscaglia and Jim Stead by taking seven of the eight points on the first two holes.  John and Jim won
the third hole to cut the deficit to two points, but Steve and Sean stretched the lead back to four after
the fourth hole.  The fifth and sixth holes were split.  When Steve and Sean took three more points on the
seventh, the lead was six points.  Any comeback hopes were dashed on the eighth hole, as John put three
balls in the water on his way to making a 10 on the par three.  The final score would end up at 27-13.
In other matches, Bill Meehan had the low round of the week with a 39 on the back nine.  That gave him a
net score of three under par to tie for low net of the week.  Bill had a birdie on the difficult par three 17th
hole.  Bill's opponent, George Weigler had a birdie of his own on the 11th hole.
The ninth-ranked team of Glenn Davis and Maria Spitzak won the "B Bracket", topping Carl Twomey and
Randy Drapeau.  Glenn led the way with a 46, tying him with Bill for low net score for the week.
