This Week in Golf – 9/4/18
Although the Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, the hot and humid weather
persisted for the semifinal round of the playoffs.
In the first semifinal match, the top seeded team of Steve Schlehuber and Sean McElroy continued their
winning ways as they dominated Ivan Audouin and Eric Solomont.  Steve and Sean roared out to an 18-2
lead after five holes and cruised to a 27-13 victory and a berth in the finals.  This marks just the second
time in the last eight years that the top ranked team has made it to the championship match.
By contrast, the second semifinal match was all square after five holes as Joe Shea and Steve Palmer took
on John Buscaglia and Jim Stead.  Jim hit his best drive of the night on the 15th hole and noticed that he
had a stone in his shoe.  John jokingly suggested he leave it there, just in case that was the reason for his
good drive.  Jim obliged and it proved to be good luck as the pair won that hole and the next two to earn
a 24-16 win.
In a non-playoff match, Art Parker had the best round of the week with a 42 on the back nine.  That also
gave him the low net with a net score of five under par.  That group as a whole fared well, as Norma
Giannattasio shot a net score of four under par and Ollie Bisson had a net score of two under par.  Ollie's
round included a birdie on the par five 12th hole.
