This Week in Golf – 8/28/18
Summer returned with a vengeance as the playoffs began on a steamy night.  The combination of heat and
humidity made it feel like it was over 100 degrees.
Doug Sampson was the only thing hotter than the weather, as he turned in a dazzling score of 37 on the
front nine.  His round included a birdie on the par four seventh hole.  Unfortunately, his opponent Joe Shea
played nearly as well, shooting a 41 and getting three strokes.  Playing alone, Joe managed to take the
match and advance his team to the next round.
The rematch between the top-ranked team of Steve Schlehuber and Sean McElroy and the eighth-seeds
Sue Donovan and Peter Morlock was a bit closer than their match last week, with Steve and Sean taking a
24-16 victory to move into the semifinals.  They will take on Ivan Audouin and Eric Solomont, who knocked
off the number two team of Ollie Bisson and Norma Giannattasio.
John Buscaglia and Jim Stead had a tight match against Mike McElhiney and Rich Geary.  John and Jim had
a slim two point lead as the match reached the ninth tee, but both won the ninth hole to secure the win.
They advance to play Joe Shea and Steve Palmer next week.
