This Week in Golf – 8/3/2017
The penultimate night of the regular season was another good one.  Warm temperatures and sunny skies
were a welcome change from the previous night's thunderstorms.
The low round of the week was once again posted by Chuck Bourgery, who shot a two over par 37 on the
front nine.  The round included birdies on the fourth and seventh holes, bringing his league leading total to
twelve.
Carl Twomey also broke 40, but his score of 38 was recorded on the back nine.  Nevertheless, his net
score of four under par 29 was good enough to share low net honors for the week.  Carl also enters a
three-way tie for Low Net A for the year.
Dan Sherman joined Carl with the low net score for the week with a net 31 on the front nine.
Rich Geary had some difficulty controlling his golf ball this week.  One of his errant shots nearly took out
the new beverage cart girl on her first night with the league.  Eric Solomont tried to shield her from harm
as the ball bounced over the cart and almost hit league president Glenn Davis.
Steve Schlehuber was heartened to see that Chuck Bourgery was giving him two strokes on the fifth hole.
It turned out that he didn't need them as he won the hole straight up.  The rest of the match did not go
as well for Steve.
The first place duo of Joe Shea and Steve Palmer saw their lead shrink to a single point over Chuck
Bourgery and Carl Taylor.  The two teams will face each other next week with the top playoff seed on the
line.
The ninth place team of Eric Solomont and Ivan Audouin find themselves just two points out of a playoff
spot.  They take on the seventh place tandem of Carl Twomey and Jim Stead, whom they only trail by five
points.  It's possible that only the winner of this match will advance to the playoffs.
The Aggie race is a tight one going into the last week.  Carl Taylor has a one point lead over four players -
Rick Kilduff, Eric Solomont, Dan Sherman and Steve Palmer.  Seven other players still have a mathematical
chance.
