This Week in Golf – 7/20/2017
It was a hot and muggy evening.  There was considerable cloudiness, but no chance of rain to cause any
concerns.
Playing the back nine again, Chuck Bourgery had the low round of the week with a two over par score of
35.  He had a birdie on hole #2, where he hit his tee ball to two feet.  That was easily the Closest to the
Pin winner this week.
Mike Mancini was on fire this week.  His round of 43 on the front nine gave him a net score of eight under
par 27.  That was the low net for the week and tied the Low Net B score for the year.  It could have been
even better if not for a pair of triple bogeys, but Mike did record his first birdie of the year on the seventh
hole.
Beware the injured golfer.  Despite playing solo and dealing with a sore back, Maria Spitzak shot her best
round of the season.  Her score of 48 on the front nine gave her a net four under par 31 and a 28-12
victory.
Speaking of injuries, we wish a speedy recovery to Mike Maloney, who will miss the rest of the season with
a broken collar bone.  Hopefully, he will be able to join us at the annual outing.  Jim Stead will take Mike's
place to finish the season.
Rick Reed arrived at the course and realized he had forgotten his golf shoes.  His match waited for him as
he made a quick trip home to retrieve them.  It was worth the trip for Rick, who shot two strokes better
than his handicap.  To quote the old Nike commercial, "It's gotta be the shoes."
Ollie Bisson skipped his drive across the pond in front of the seventh tee.  It barely missed the bench near
the forward tees and managed to make it to the fairway.
Pam Dietz made her first birdie ever on the eighth hole.  Her excited shout was heard on the seventh tee,
along with a declaration that it had better make the highlights.  And so it has.
