This Week in Golf – 6/29/2017
It was another fine evening for golf with warm temperatures and overcast skies, but there was no threat
of rain.
To the surprise of none, the low round of the week belonged to Chuck Bourgery.  Even though he usually
prefers not to play the back nine, he shot a four over par score of 37.  A birdie on the second hole gives
him the league lead.
Mike McElhiney had the low net score for the week with a four under par 31 on the front nine.  That also
sets a new Low Net A score for the year.  Mike got his round off to a good start with a 40 foot chip-in on
the first hole to save par.  He turned away and did not see it go in, but the reaction of his opponents let
him know something good had happened.  For good measure, he added a birdie on the seventh hole.  It was
his third birdie of the year and all of them have come on the seventh hole.
Playing with his partner Joe Shea, Steve Palmer did not have as good a round as he did last week without
him.  They still managed to take a 23-17 victory and keep their position atop the standings.
Things have really tightened up in the race to make the playoffs.  There is only a twelve point difference
between fifth place and eleventh place.  The final five weeks of the regular season should be exciting as
teams look to get into the top eight spots.
