This Week in Golf – 8/31/2017
This week was the culmination of the 2017 season and marked the last night of league play at Millwood.
John Buscaglia and Mike Mancini faced Carl Twomey and Jim Stead in the Championship match, while Jim
Geary and Dan Sherman took on Eric Solomont minus partner Ivan Audouin in the Consolation match.
John and Mike took all four points on the first hole to take an early lead in the Championship match.  Carl
and Jim won the second to cut into the lead and took the lead by winning all four points on the third.  Mike
and Carl each made birdie on the fourth as the teams split the hole.
The fifth hole was also halved.  John and Mike squared the match by taking three points on the sixth hole.
Undaunted, Carl and Jim took three points on the seventh to regain the lead.  The teams would split the
eighth and ninth holes to finish with a 19-17 advantage.  The net scores would decide the match.
While Mike and Carl both played well, John and Jim struggled.  After the scores were tallied up, Mike and
Carl each had net scores of one under par 34 to split the points for individual low net.  The team low net
went to Carl and Jim by a single stroke, which gave them the 22-18 victory. This was Carl's first time
winning the championship in the many years he has been in the league, while Jim wins in his first year.
The consolation match was a back-and-forth affair.  After the teams traded wins on the first two holes,
Jim and Dan took the next two to build a six point lead.  Eric won the fifth and sixth holes to even the
match.  The seventh hole was halved.  Jim and Dan took seven out of the eight points on the last two
holes to secure the win and claim the third place prize money.  The final margin of victory was 25-15.
